Diamond Dogs mines a field of tried and tested David Bowie nuggets, a time when he went from folk hippy to alien messiah in the early 1970s. Few artistes were able to meld performance art with an innate rock n’ roll sensibility, but Bowie did it all in his inimitable style.
Diamond Dogs pays tribute to the intricate nuances of these reputation-cementing tracks, and it’ll all be served up with the de rigueur lipstick, powder and paint. The music world may have come to a standstill in the early days of Jan 2016 when news of David Bowie’s passing reverberated across the world. But what he left in death is the life he gave in his swan song, Black Star, his last album. The eclectic piece of work, featuring New York City jazz musicians, received critical acclaim upon its release, and framed Bowie in a way he was never seen before. And true to form, with having constantly turned the music world on its head, it was time for his final act of the unexpected.
