Sabah Open BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) & Submission Grappling Tournament is Malaysia’s biggest grappling event with over 150 competitors last year in men’s, women’s and junior’s divisions. Organised in partnership with Persatuan BJJ Negeri Sabah and with the support of the Ministry of Youth & Sports Sabah.

This event will run over 2 days, with Gi matches on day 1 and No-Gi matches on day 2. All matches will follow the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) format.

Affiliated under Checkmate BJJ, the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association of Sabah is committed to the propagation of BJJ and all forms of grappling to its immediate community in the island of Borneo. We have been organising BJJ and grappling competitions for over 5 years now, and currently host the annual Sabah Open as well as the annual Headhunters Challenge.

• Ticket prices (Zero GST) shown are in MYR (Malaysian Ringgit).
• Ticketing Fee of RM5.00 per ticket will be charged.
• Successfully purchased tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE, NON-TRANSFERABLE or DEFERRABLE.
• One (1) ticket admits One (1) person only.
• Kids division brackets will be made in accordance to closest fit weight match ups on the day. Children are advised NOT to cut weight.
• Weigh-ins will be done with the Gi on. Allow 2 kgs for the Gi. Separate weigh-ins will be conducted before the No-Gi event commences. Deduct 2kgs from the weight categories for No-Gi.
• Confirmation of registration will be sent via email to successful applicants. Any Sabah Open BJJ enquires should be directed to [email protected].
• Competitors under the age of 18 will require the consent of a parent or legal guardian with parent/guardian’s signature on the waiver form (to be signed on day of competition before entry to the mats).
• In the event that a division has less than 3 competitors, it will be merged with the closest weight division.
